German Shepherd injured rear leg

My G.S. Talin came in this morning holding up his back right leg. He is limping and still keeping the weight off his leg a few hours later. i think that he has just given himself a knock and his leg is obviously sore as have had this before. Or could there be more damage than i think? I am worried that it could be something worse. Any advice

Check the paw and pads for any injury. If none visible squeeze each pad gently in turn. Check the nails in a similar manner if any are sore bathe in warm salt solution. If nothing to see or feel keep dog on lead and contcat your vet bfore feeding the dog in the morning. Do not allow him to jump up or down steps or onto bed etc.
