engine oil on fences

I am a bit worried about my livery yard as they have decided to paint old engine oil on the fences to stop them chewing it. Is this dangerous to horses

The engine oil sounds like a good plan to me. It is les irritant than creosote but should have the desired effect. Some horses Seem to develope a taste for tanasiled timber which is not good for them. The worst that is likely to happen with the oil is a mild irritation of the membranes of lips and gums and it may stain your joddies.
