Colic...

1 week ago, my 20 year thoroughbred horse Steven, died of colic;( It could be reversed we had to put him down because of all his pain and suffering. The vet supected that his stomach turned all the way to his back. What kind of colic is this? I day before he passed he was as healthy as could be. Can a horse go from a happy healthy horse to rock bottom ill in less than 12 hours?

the short answer unfortunately is yes and gastric or intestinal torsions which thankfully are rare are both conditions that can s cause such a rapid demise as you detail here. Having a horse with colic is always a traumatic experience even if it is correctable and I send you my sincere sympathy I have never heard of a gastric torsion being corrected surgically and regretfully euthanasia is the only humane course of action in these cases.
