Swollen Left front pastern

She has swelling from her ankle to her coronet band in the back. What is usually indented is totally swollen, hard, no heat. She is not lame but if you press on it she shows tenderness. She foundered many years ago but has been servicably sound and has been a well kept pasture pet for years. On occasion she has swelling in her legs with heat and then I wrap her, poultice her and she is fine in a few days. I have never seen anything like this ever. there is no mud rot or anything.

i tend to agree with you that the swelling without lameness in that area suggests an infection distal to the swelling so that includes the hoof. I guess I would be looking for an open wound in the sole or bulbs of the heal. I would poultice the foot and the pastern even if no wound is found.
I also suspect and hope that if there was anything serious happening or any consequence of her founder then she would be lame and in some distress and as you do not suggest she is then I am assuming she is not.
