our hamster

Our hamster went missing into our wall cavity after escaping from his cage for 2 nights. We made a hole big enough for him to get out, but he is very tired and hungry, and one of his back legs is lame - (broken?) - we think as a result of the tight hole he got through intially. We have made his cage smaller and have given him plenty of food and drink close to his bed. What else should we do?
